
Austin Spurs Outshoot the Canton Charge

Cedar Park, TX - The Austin Spurs rout the Canton Charge 115-105 at the SWBC Court at Cedar Park Center Friday night, extending their winning streak to nine games.
The Austin Spurs came out firing in the first quarter. Steals from Jonathan Simmons and Atlanta-assigned Adreian Payne, combined with buckets from JaMychal Green and Bryce Cotton gave Austin an early lead. Canton managed to recover from the deficit and claimed the lead at the end of the first with a three-point basket at the buzzer, giving them a 28-25 advantage.
A three pointer by Orlando Johnson at the eight-minute mark of the second quarter gave the Austin Spurs back the lead, 34-33. The Charge would only regain the lead one more time during the quarter. A three from Simmons at 7:22 would give Austin the spark it needed heading into halftime, leading 58-51.
The Austin Spurs opened the second half on a 16-0 run, extending their lead to 74-51. The Canton drought ended with 5:19 left in the third after a pair of free throws by Justin Johnson. The Charge clawed back into the game and the third ended with an Austin Spurs 86-73 lead.
The Austin Spurs shot 71.4% from the field in the fourth quarter. Green had an emphatic shot block at 9:55 that kept Austin's momentum going strong. Orlando Johnson's steal and drawn foul with 1:26 left to play sealed the victory for the Austin Spurs.
JaMychal Green led all scorers with 25 points, while Austin's Erik Murphy and Simmons combined to hit 10-of-14 three-point attempts. Cotton contributed 23 points, 7 assists for Austin. Brandon Paul (19 points) led the Charge in scoring, followed by Chris Crawford (16 points).
The Austin Spurs (9-3) host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers Sunday, December 21st at 5:00pm. The Charge (8-6) travel to Rio Grande Valley Saturday, December 20th at 7:00pm.
