Reading Fightin Phils News Release

The Reading Fightin Phils topped the Somerset Patriots 5-4 in a hard fought battle on Wednesday night.

Somerset started it off scoring on a sacrifice fly in the first.

Reading utilized a four run second to give them a lead they never relinquished. Luke Miller started it off with a double and Logan Landon singled to make his way on to the base paths. Colby Fitch walked to load the bases. Matt Kroon sent a two RBI double out to center field to put Reading on top 2-1.

Then Arquimedes Gamboa singled to plate Kroon. Josh Stephen launched a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.

The Patriots added two runs off a home run by Michael Beltre to put his team within one run of the Fightins.

In the top of the fifth, the R-Phils loaded the bases. Madison Stokes scored on a passed ball. Reading led 5-3.

A solo shot from Isiah Gilliam erased the insurance run for Reading.

Jack Perkins threw four innings of work allowing five hits and three earned runs, striking out five. Austin Ross (W, 6-2) tossed a clean frame. Nick Lackney followed out of the bullpen letting up one run, a solo homer. Zach Warren put up a zero in the eighth using a double play to get out of the inning.
