Toledo Walleye News Release
(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm (12-9-1) hadn't lost a game on the home ice since the Florida Everblades defeated the Red and White back on November 3rd. However, the Reading Royals (12-10-4) broke a 1-1 tie midway through the third period and claimed victory by a 3-1 count in front of 3,867 at Toledo Sports Arena on Saturday night.
The Royals jumped out to an early lead, as Arpad Mihaly notched his 16th goal of the season, seventh against the Storm, just 1:24 into the opening period to put the visitors up 1-0. Toledo would respond, however, at the 4:58 mark when Tim Songin and Chris Blight set up Nick Parillo who put a shorthanded goal past Reading netminder Jeff Pietrasiak (W, 30 saves) to tie the game at 1.
After a scoreless second period, the teams traded scoring chances early in the third. And after a scramble in front of the net, John Snowden corralled a loose puck and wristed it over Storm goaltender Dominic Vicari (L, 37saves) to give the Royals a 2-1 lead at the 9:41 mark.
Greg Hogeboom added an empty netter late, at 18:49 of the third, to seal the victory for Reading. It was just the second time this season the Storm have been defeated at home, and is the first time since the 2005 Kelly Cup Playoffs that the Storm have fallen to the Royals at Toledo Sports Arena.
The Storm will once again hit the road this Thursday, as they will travel to
Cincinnati to battle the Cyclones at 7:30pm at the U.S. Bank Arena. The
Storm will be back on the home ice the following night, next Friday night
when they will welcome in the Cyclones for the tail end of the home-and-home
series. Great tickets for the game are still available by calling
