(Reading, PA) - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies defeated the Reading Fightin Phils in both games of Saturday night's doubleheader in extra innings. After Binghamton defeated Reading 4-1 in eight innings, the Rumble Ponies completed the Saturday sweep with an 8-5 another eight-inning victory over the R-Phils.

Game One

Phillies No. three prospect Griff McGarry had one of his best starts of the season, striking out eight Binghamton batters in five innings of work. The starting pitcher did not give up a hit, walking two Rumble Ponies batters.

Binghamton starting pitcher Dom Hamel also pitched well, allowing just three hits, nine strikeouts and one-earned run.

Both teams could not score in the first three innings of play, despite Carlos De La Cruz reaching second base following a walk and a Johan Rojas fielder's choice in the first inning.

Reading took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Oliver Dunn walked and eventually scored on an RBI single from McCarthy Tatum.

RHP Matt Seelinger relieved McGarry in the top of the sixth inning, carrying the no-hitter through six. However, Binghamton notched back-to-back hits from Luke Ritter and a double from Jose Peroza in the top of the seventh inning. Brandon Mcllwain hit a sacrifice fly-out to right field, scoring Ritter to tie the game at 1-1.

Brett Schulze replaced Seelinger with runners on second and third with one out. Schulze managed to get out of the jam, striking out both batters faced in the top of the seventh inning to keep the tie.

Reading's Cody Roberts, Madison Stokes and De La Cruz were retired in order to force extra innings for the second consecutive night.

After a Wyatt Young walk for Binghamton, Matt Rudick hit a three-run home run to right field to score Joe Suozzi and Young to give the Rumble Ponies a 4-1 lead, their first of the night.

The R-Phils were unable to score in the bottom of the eighth inning, falling in game one 4-1 in eight innings.

Seelinger was credited with his first blown save for Reading and Schulze fell to 2-5 with the loss. Trey McLoughlin was given the win for Binghamton, improving to 1-0 this season.

Game Two

R-Phils starter David Parkinson pitched four-solid innings before a four-run sixth inning for Binghamton. The lefty pitched 5.1 innings, giving up five hits and five-earned runs. Parkinson struck out six Rumble Ponies, three coming in the first inning.

In the top of the second inning, Binghamton took a 1-0 lead after Peroza hit a solo home run to right-center field.

Reading tallied two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead over Binghamton. Madison Stokes mashed a home run to left field and Rojas followed by placing a perfect bunt down the third baseline for an infield single. Oliver Dunn followed with an RBI double to score the speedy Rojas from first base.

The R-Phils added three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead to four runs. Stokes drew a leadoff walk and De La Cruz followed with a single. Rojas roped a triple down the right-field line to score Stokes and De La Cruz. Dunn added an RBI single to score Rojas.

The Rumble Ponies rallied in the top of the sixth inning, scoring four runs off of Parkinson and Adam Leverett to tie the game 5-5. Young singled, Ritter Walked and Peroza singled to score young. Adam Leverett came in to relieve Parkinson, but Binghamton's Mcllwain followed up with a two run double. Hayden Senger hit a sacrifice flyout to right field to score Mcllwain.

Reading was not able to respond to Binghamton's bats, forcing extra innings for the third-straight game.

Binghamton scored three runs off of Andrew Baker in the top of the eighth inning to take a commanding 8-5 lead. Rodney Jordan singled to center field and advanced to second base on De La Cruz's throw home, moving Rudick to third base. Ritter followed with a single to left field to score Rudick. Peroza doubled to score both Ritter and Jordan to extend the Rumble Ponies' lead.

Justin Courtney earned the win for Binghamton to improve to 1-3 this season, while Baker suffered the loss to fall to 0-3 on the year. Reading drops to 21-34 with two losses today and Binghamton improves to 27-28 with the pair of wins.
