
Comeback Ponies Rally in Both Games to Sweep Doubleheader in Reading

Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
READING, PA - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (27-28) swept both games of Saturday's doubleheader against the Reading Fightin Phils (21-34) at FirstEnergy Stadium. It's the second time this season the Rumble Ponies have swept a doubleheader and first time on the road. Binghamton came from behind to take both games against the Fightins as each contest went into extra innings. The Rumble Ponies earned the series victory as they've taken four of the first five games in the series.
Game One: Rumble Ponies 4, Fightins 1 (8)
The Rumble Ponies had not recorded a hit through the first six innings. In the seventh, down 1-0, Luke Ritter led off the frame with a single to left and Jose Peroza doubled down the left field line. With second and third and none out, Brandon McIlwain hit a sacrifice fly to right to tie the score at one.
In the eighth, Matt Rudick hit a three-run homer to put the Ponies ahead 4-1. It is Rudick's ninth home run of the season.
Dom Hamel allowed just three hits and one run over six innings in the no-decision with three walks and a season-high nine strikeouts. Trey McLoughlin (1-0) earned the first win of his Double-A career throwing two scoreless frames in relief.
Game Two: Rumble Ponies 8, Rumble Ponies 5 (8)
Down 5-1 in the sixth, Binghamton scored four runs in the sixth inning to tie the score. The frame was highlighted by an RBI single from Jose Peroza and a two-run double from Brandon McIlwain to pull the Ponies to cut the deficit to 5-4. The next batter Hayden Senger tied the game at five with a sacrifice fly to right.
In the eighth, Luke Ritter's RBI single put the Ponies ahead 6-5. Peroza followed with a two-run double down the first-base line that extended the lead to 8-5. Peroza also hit a solo home run over the high wall in right center field in the second inning, giving the Ponies a 1-0 lead. It is Peroza's eighth homer of the year and second in his last three games. He finished game two 3-4 with 4 RBI and two runs scored.
Marcel Renteria pitched a 1-2-3 eighth to earn his first save of the year. Justin Courtney pitched two scoreless frames in relief.
The Rumble Ponies close out the series in Reading on Sunday with first pitch at 5:15 PM. The NYCM Insurance Pregame Show begins at 5:00 PM.
Postgame Notes: The Ponies are now 2-0-2 in four doubleheaders this year (wins, losses, splits)...Peroza is hitting .454 with two home runs and five RBI over the last three games.
