Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers cracked two home runs and received solid pitching on Friday night to beat the Peoria Chiefs 5-2 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Joe Gray Jr and Ben Metzinger provided the power in a decisive third inning to help the Rattlers to the win.
Eduardo García gave the Timber Rattlers (3-4) the lead in the bottom of the first with a two-out RBI triple to score Rob Moore.
Wisconsin's pair of home runs made it a 4-0 advantage in the third inning. Gray cracked a solo shot with one out for his first home run of the season. García walked to bring Metzinger to the plate and Metzinger cleared the wall for a two-run homer. That long ball was also Metzinger's first of the year.
Peoria (2-5) rallied against Rattlers starter Cam Wagoner in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Nathan Church and an RBI triple by Osvaldo Tovalin. Wagoner got out of the fourth without any more damage.
The Chiefs got the lead-off man aboard in the top of the fifth, but Wagoner got Victor Scott II to ground into a big 4-6-3 double play. Wagoner retired the next batter to end his night and put himself in line for his first Midwest League win.
Gray was the catalyst for the Rattlers to pick up an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh. He lined a double off the top of the wall in left, went to third on a single by García, and scored on a wild pitch for a three-run cushion. Gray went 2-for-3 with a walk in the game.
The Rattlers bullpen closed out the game with four scoreless innings. Max Lazar worked three frames with three strikeouts. Kaleb Bowman had a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless ninth for his second save.
The teams play game five of their series on Saturday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Stiven Cruz (0-0, 4.50) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Austin Love (0-0, 3.86) is set to start for the Chiefs. Game time is 1:10pm.
