June 9, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Colby Rasmus was named the Player of the Month for May within the St. Louis Cardinals' organization, the Swing of the Quad Cities announced Friday. Rasmus, the 28th overall pick in the 2005 draft, takes home the monthly honors after Jaime Garcia was named Pitcher of the Month for April.
Rasmus, 19, boasted an 11-game hitting streak through the end of April, and carried that momentum into a month of May in which he featured a .330 batting average in 27 games. The center fielder from Phenix City, Alabama also homered twice and drove in 16 runs, while doubling eight times and stealing five bases.
Rated the No. 2 prospect in the Cardinals' organization by Baseball America prior to the 2006 season, Rasmus is currently hitting .296 with 15 doubles, five home runs, 29 RBI, and 13 stolen bases through his first 57 games of full-season ball. His younger brother, Cory, was selected 38th overall as a right-handed pitcher by the Atlanta Braves in the 2006 draft.
UP NEXT: The Swing of the Quad Cities will finish out their series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels Friday, as LHP Adam Daniels (2-4, 4.03) is slated to take the mound against RHP Nick Adenhart (7-2, 2.17). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with coverage on Progressive Talk AM-1270 beginning at 6:45 p.m.
UPCOMING PROMOTIONS: Stick around after the game on Boy Scout Night, Friday, June 9, and enjoy KWQC/Q106.5/Boy Scouts fireworks.
