Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
FOX CITIES STADIUM -- The Kane County Cougars held off the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 3-2 on Friday night. Anthony Recker's two-run homer in the sixth inning put the Cougars in front 2-1. Jared Lansford led a quintet of Kane County pitchers to the win.
Wisconsin (25-36) got on the board first by scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning off Lansford. Casey Craig reached on an error with two out and stole second. Curtis Ledbetter knocked in Craig with a single to center. That was the only run Wisconsin would get off Lansford. In three starts against Wisconsin, Lansford has gone nineteen innings, allowed one unearned run on eight hits for three wins.
The Rattlers had a chance to add to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Michael Saunders doubled into the right field corner with Chao Kuan Wu at first base. Wu was throw out at the plate on a perfect relay throw for the final out of the inning.
Rattler starter Harold Williams kept the Cougars (38-23) off the board through the first five innings despite walking five and having the leadoff batter on base four times. But, in the sixth the Cougars struck.
Jeff Baisley drew a walk, the sixth issued by the Rattler lefty, to start the inning. Williams fell behind Recker 2-0 on a pair of close pitches. Recker hit a monstrous home run to left on the next pitch and the Cougars went in front.
Kane County added to their lead with an RBI single by Steve Kleen in the top of the seventh inning.
The Cougars could have added more to their lead in the top of the eighth inning. But, Rattler reliever Edgar Guaramato entered the game cleaned up a bases loaded one out mess with a pair of strikeouts.
Jeff Dominguez got the Rattlers to within a run on a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning.
However, Cougar closer Steven Sharpe pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his twelfth save of the season.
