Rascals Slug Their Way Past Otters

Evansville Otters News Release

O'Fallon, MO - The Otters endured another barrage from the River City Rascals Wednesday night, falling 6-3 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. The Rascals hit four home runs for the second consecutive night, sending the Otters to their eleventh straight loss.

The Otters held the lead briefly when Frank Meade's two out single scored Kenny Gilbert from second base in the first inning. The Rascals answered promptly, as Scott Houin hit a leadoff home run for the second consecutive night. His seventh of the year exited over the left field wall. Ernie Banks delivered a two-run shot later in the inning, staking the Rascals to a 3-1 lead they would not relinquish.

Banks padded the lead in the third inning, hitting his second home run to right-centerfield. In eight games against the Otters, Banks has left the yard seven times.

Joe Chavarria added his first home run of the year in the fifth inning.

The Otters got a run scoring double from Jeremy Strack in the sixth inning to draw within 6-3, but that would be as close as they would get.

Evansville would put the tying run at the plate in the ninth inning, but Frank Meade, the team leader in home runs, struck out with runners on first and third to end the game.

Otters' starter Nick Utley (4-6) tossed a complete game, allowing six runs (all earned) on six hits in eight innings. Rascals' starter Josh Lowey (9-2) allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits in five innings. His twin brother Jason picked up his league-leading 22nd save of the year after throwing a scoreless ninth inning.

The Otters (28-64) will look to avoid the sweep Thursday at 7:05pm CDT in their final road game of the year.
