
Grizzlies Bounce Back For Win

SAUGET, IL- One night after a series opening loss that saw the Gateway Grizzlies give up 20 runs, Gateway bounced back with a 9-3 win over the Rockford RiverHawks in game two of a three-game series Wednesday night at GCS Ballpark.
The Grizzlies (38-54) scored three times in the first inning and never trailed in the game. Grizzlies starter Mark Brackman allowed just a single earned run on five hits. He struck out nine over seven innings to earn his team-leading sixth win of the year. He is now 6-10.
The first three batters reached with hits against Rockford starter Elliott Cribby. Joseph Scaperotta drove in a run with a double. Joe Agreste added an RBI on a groundout. Nate Lape made it 4-0 Grizzlies with a home run leading off the second inning. It was Lape's second home run in as many nights.
Rockford (43-47) got on the board in the third on an RBI by Caleb Fields.
The Grizzlies extended the lead to 5-1 with a run in the fourth on an RBI hit by Brandon Peters. Alex Kerins made it 7-1 with a two-run homer in the fifth inning, his second in the series. Wilson Matos and Scaperotta each drove in runs with hits in the sixth inning to put the Grizzlies up 9-1.
Peters finished the night 3-5 with the RBI. Matos was 3-4. Scaperotta was 2-4 with two RBIs. Kerins was 2-4 with the homer.
The 'Hawks scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the final margin.
The Grizzlies and RiverHawks play the finale of the three-game series Thursday night at GCS Ballpark. It is the home finale for the Grizzlies. It is the final game ever between the Grizzlies and the RiverHawks, who will make the jump from the Frontier League to the Northern League for the 2010 season. First pitch is slated for 6:05 pm.
