
Bostelman Finishes Strong But Beach Bums Fall

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums lost to the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti 2-1 on Wednesday night for their third straight defeat.
The Sliders plated the first run of the game in the third inning. Bryan Bonner began the frame with a single up the middle. He was sacrificed to second and moved to third when Zack Pace reached on an error. Bonner scored unearned on a sacrifice fly.
Beach Bums starter Brett Bostelman went seven innings in his final start of the season, allowing just one earned run, which came in the seventh to put the Sliders up 2-0. Jeremy Jones led off with a double and scored on a two-out single by Garrett Maines. Bostelman took the loss despite allowing just six hits to go with three walks and a pair of strikeouts.
The lone run for the Beach Bums scored in the eighth inning. Mike Epping led off with a bunt single and scored when Michael Campbell deposited a 2-1 pitch from reliever Eric Gilliland into center with one out. Brian Lapin followed with a single but Campbell was thrown out after slipping rounding second to end the threat.
Jeff Fischer threw seven shutout innings to notch the victory for the Sliders while Earl Oakes picked up the save. The Beach Bums left runners on base in seven innings including the ninth when the tying run was on with one out. Traverse City stranded runners in scoring position in five of the innings.
Brian Lapin and Mike Epping each had two hits for the Beach Bums, who finished with eight in the contest.
The Beach Bums will have an off day tomorrow before welcoming the Kalamazoo Kings on Friday night to begin the final series of the season. The contest will be at 7:05pm and will feature FANtastic Fireworks. RHP David Nathanson (6-9, 3.75) will make the start while Kalamazoo will counter with RHP Tommy Mejia (4-3, 3.78).
