San Antonio Rampage News Release
ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS - James Wright scored the decisive goal in the seventh round of the shootout and goalie Jacob Markstroms tied a career-high with 46 saves to lift the San Antonio Rampage to a 4-3 shootout win over the Rockford IceHogs Saturday at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
The win was San Antonio's 20th road victory of the year setting a new franchise high.
Rockford opened the scoring in the 14th minute of play when Rostislav Olesz camped in front of the net buried a centering pass from Peter LeBlanc through the pads of Markstrom at 13:52 on the power play for a 1-0 lead.
The Rampage responded with two goals in a 30 second span early in the middle period to grab a 2-1 lead. Bracken Kearns deflected Sean Sullivan's shot from the point past Rockford goalie Carter Hutton at 7:11 on the power play to tie the score at 1-1. Michal Repik gave San Antonio their first lead of the night seconds later when he collected his own rebound at the top of the crease and flipped the puck over Hutton and in at 7:41 for a 2-1 advantage.
But the IceHogs would close out the second period with two goals in a 2:35 second stretch to re-claim the lead going into intermission. Brandon Pirri driving down the slot snuck a wrist shot through Markstrom's elbow and blocker and into the net at 12:13 of the period to even the score at 2-2. Olesz then claimed his second goal of the night at 14:48 when he deflected Ryan Stanton's shot from the right point past Markstrom and in for a 3-2 Rockford lead.
Jon Matsumoto netted the equalizer at 12:18 of the third period when his snap shot from just inside the right-wing circle beat an out-stretched Hutton to tie the game at 3-3.
Following a scoreless overtime, Mark Cullen and Wright would score shootout goals in the first and seventh round respectively. Markstrom stopped 6 of 7 Rockford shooters to preserve the victory.
The Rampage (37-27-3-2) are back in action at 5:00 p.m. (CST) Sunday when they visit the Peoria Rivermen at Carver Arena.
