Crunch Rebound with OT Win Over Binghamton

Binghamton, NY (March 31, 2012) The Syracuse Crunch earned a 2-1 victory in overtime against the Binghamton Senators, tonight at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. Kyle Cumiskey earned the game-winner when his centering feed was sent over the goal line by Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki. The Crunch have now earned points in 10 straight games (8-0-1-1) and remain in sole possession of seventh place in the Eastern Conference.

The Crunch opened the scoring with 35.8 seconds remaining in the first period. John Mitchell fired a sharp-angle shot on goal, which caromed to Dan Sexton for his 12th goal of the season. Riley Holzapfel also earned an assist on the play. The Crunch out-shot Binghamton 16-10 after 20 minutes.

The Senators tied it up at one with 5:53 remaining on the power play. Patrick Wiercioch's point shot found its way past Iiro Tarkki. Shots were 27-21 in favor of the Crunch after 40 minutes. After a scoreless third period, the game headed into overtime.

In the extra session, Cumiskey led a rush up ice on the right-wing side. After throwing the puck in front, Borowiecki inadvertently cleared the puck into his own net at 2:41 to end the game.

The Crunch return home on Wednesday to face the Senators at 7 p.m. to complete their eight-game season series.
