Peoria Rivermen News Release
Despite 29 saves from Jake Allen, the Peoria Rivermen fell 4-1 to the Charlotte Checkers in front of 7,845 at Carver Arena on Saturday night. Jonathan Cheechoo scored for the sixth time in his last seven games but it came in Peoria's fifth consecutive loss (0-4-0-1).
Cheechoo opened the scoring 9:11 into the second period with an unassisted goal. Cheechoo intercepted a pass at the blue line and stepped into a slapshot that beat Mike Murphy blocker side for his 24th of the season.
Zac Dalpe's tallied his 18th of the year from Chris Terry and Justin Shugg at 16:26. Terry left a drop-pass for Dalpe in the right circle and his shot beat Allen's glove. Brett Sutter gave the Checkers the lead just 56 seconds later with an airborne deflection at the doorstep.
Chris Durno provided an insurance goal for Charlotte at 11:39 in the third period. Sutter sent a short pass from behind Allen's net to the left circle where Durno was waiting.
Sutter added an empty-net marker at 19:20 to finish the scoring.
Peoria finished 0-for-2 on the power play and held Charlotte scoreless on six chances. Rivermen captain Adam Cracknell was assessed a match penalty for a hit to the head at the 2:22 mark of the first period and was ejected from the game.
