San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 24, 2009) - The Rampage opened the 2009-10 preseason in front of a raucous crowd at Northwoods Ice Center, the team's official practice facility, falling to their new West Division rival Texas Stars by a 2-1 score.

Despite outshooting Texas in each of the three periods by a 31-15 margin, San Antonio fell short in its attempt to solve Stars goaltender Richard Bachman.

Following a scoreless first period, Texas grabbed the lead at the 2:35 mark in the second on a goal by center Travis Morin. After Rampage goaltender Josh Tordjman lost his stick in the midst of heavy traffic in front of the San Antonio net, Morin tapped in a loose puck to put the Stars up 1-0.

Less than two minutes into the third period, Stars forward Greg Rallo added to the Texas lead. After intercepting a clearing pass inside the Rampage zone, Stars Center Justin Bowers worked the puck down low to Rallo, who drove across the goal line towards the Rampage net and beat Tordjman high to the short side to give Texas a two goal advantage.

The Rampage eventually found the scoreboard at the 12:13 mark of the third as San Antonio left wing Shawn Weller nabbed the puck in the corner and drove behind the net. After holding the puck for a split second, Weller found Rampage right wing Matt Watkins in front of the net. Watkins then made a quick move to draw Bachman to the near side and beat the Texas netminder to close the deficit to 2-1.

Tordjman finished with 13 saves on 15 shots while Bachman turned away 30 of 31 to give the Stars netminder his first preseason win.

The Rampage round out their preseason schedule with a pair of road games. They will travel to Houston Saturday to take on the Aeros at Sugarland Ice and Sports Center at 6 p.m. and head to Austin for the Stars very first game in Cedar Park Center at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
