September 24, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany River Rats News Release
ALBANY, NY-The Albany River Rats and the Adirondack Phantoms announced today that Time Warner Cable is the presenting sponsor of their inaugural season series.
The new rivals will battle for the Time Warner Cable Cup in each of the next two seasons. The teams play a pair of pre-season match-ups this weekend and will meet for the first of twelve games during the regular season on Saturday October 17, 2009 in a 7:00 p.m. face-off at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The first game at the Times Union Center will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
The Time Warner Cable Cup will be presented annually to the winner of the season series (winning the most of the twelve head-to-head games) and will be displayed at the team's home facility until the rivalry is renewed the following season. Time Warner Cable Sports will be producing a pre-season show highlighting the Time Warner Cable Cup rivalry to air on TWC3.
The winning team will also help designate a local non-profit to receive a $5,000 grant from Time Warner Cable. Local organizations will have the opportunity to apply for the award by completing an online submission process at www.timewarnercablecup.twalbany.com. Those applications must be completed no later than February 1, 2010.
Organizations will be judged on how their organization connects youth to opportunities that inspire them to develop the important science, technology, engineering and math skills they need to become the problem solvers of tomorrow.
Time Warner Cable's Regional VP of Operations John Quigley said, "Time Warner Cable loves sports and is a long-time supporter of this community. The ongoing rivalry between River Rats and the Phantoms is sure to be exciting. We're proud to join the teams in this series, but even more importantly are happy that the Time Warner Cable Cup allows us to support significant and successful educational programs changing the lives of kids in the community."
The Time Warner Cable Cup Series will also feature discounted ticket pricing for the twelve games between the River Rats and Phantoms exclusively for Time Warner Cable customers. All Time Warner Cable customers will receive a $3 discount on all TWCC games at both the Times Union Center and the Glens Falls Civic Center during the inaugural season series. Fans will also have the opportunity to win great prizes at www.timewarnercablecup.twalbany.com by registering their predictions on a variety of statistics that will occur during the series, which kicks off on October 17th.
The River Rats are hosting their first annual "Rats Fest" prior to their September 26th pre-season home game against the Adirondack Phantoms. Entry to both the 2:00 p.m. festival and the 5:00 p.m. game is free to the general public. Albany is set to open its 17th season in the American Hockey League against the Manchester Monarchs at the Times Union Center on October 3, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. River Rats 2009-10 season and flex ticket packages are now on sale at the River Rats executive offices at the Times Union Center, by calling (518) 487-2244 or by logging onto www.albanyriverrats.com.
