San Antonio Rampage News Release

WINNIPEG, Man. - With second place at stake, all the San Antonio Rampage needed was a single point in their two-game set with the Manitoba Moose to claim the lead in the race for home-ice advantage in the playoffs.

But with the way Manitoba is playing, that was no small task.

The Rampage dropped another nail-biter in Manitoba, 4-2, as they concluded their road trip still tied with Rockford for the second spot in the West Division.

The Moose (40-24-2-3, 85 points) won their eight straight contest and have points in their last ten (9-0-0-1) as they make a charge for the top seed in the North Division.

Things got rolling for the Rampage (36-22-3-7) first this time, as they scored the game-opening goal for just the second time in their last 10 games.

The score was set up by a David Spina touch pass over the blue-line to keep the Rampage onside. All-star Joey Tenute received the pass and skated between two defenders for his 20th goal of the season, beating Manitoba goalie Drew MacIntyre stick-side for the 1-0 Rampage advantage.

Spina recorded his 36th point of the year, a new career-high, with the assist and extended his point streak to four games (one goal, four assists).

Manitoba tied the game at 1-1 with a goal from center Brad Moran with 5:17 to go in the opening frame.

A sleek pass through the legs of a Rampage defender led to a Manitoba goal from left wing Jannik Hansen with 1:39 left in the second frame for a 2-1 lead. Hansen recorded a four-point night (one goal, three assists) for Manitoba.

Manitoba widened the margin with an insurance goal at the halfway mark of the third period on a power-play score by defenseman Maxime Fortunus.

Rampage captain Bryan Helmer blasted a one-timer to pull San Antonio back within a goal with a smidge over five minutes remaining.

Travis Roche slid a pass to Helmer on the outer edge of the left circle for his second assist of the night. Mike Zigomanis also recorded an assist to push his point streak to seven games, tying a Rampage season-high.

Manitoba scored an empty-netter in the last minute of play.

The Rampage will try for second place, and a franchise-record 37th win of the season, when they return to the home ice at 7 p.m. Saturday against the Chicago Wolves. Bring your dog to the game with you, as the Rampage celebrate Pucks and Paws Night, presented by Pedigree.
