Amerks Take on Monsters Tonight

(Rochester, NY)... Tonight, the Rochester Americans head to Lake Erie to face the Monsters in the final game of their five-game road trip. The 7:00 p.m. contest is the fifth of six scheduled meetings between the divisional rivals and will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks. The Amerks fell 7-2 in their last meeting with the Monsters at the Quicken Loans Arena on January 26th. Rochester is 1-2-0-1 this season/all-time against the Colorado Avalanche affiliate.

Mark Mancari leads the Amerks (18-38-6-4) with 46 points (16+30) and is followed closely by rookie Marc-Andre Gragnani. The defenseman-turned-forward's 41 points (9+32) rank him sixth in rookie scoring in the American Hockey League and his 32 assists lead the team. Winger Stefan Meyer leads the Amerks with 18 goals on the season.

Lake Erie's Eric Healey runs the show for the Monsters with a commanding team lead of 43 points (19+24). Healey shares the team lead for goals with rookie Chris Stewart, brother of Amerks' right wing Anthony Stewart. Chris Stewart's 35 points (19+16) qualifies him for second place in Lake Erie. The Monsters sit just above the Amerks in the AHL's North Division with a 23-31-4-7 record.

The Amerks roster will feature three new names tonight. Amerks General Manager Jody Gage announced today that Paul Baier, Tommy Goebel, and Johann Kroll have each been signed to an ATO.

Baier will be playing in his first AHL game tonight after finishing his college career as a defenseman at Brown University. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound native of Rhode Island collected 28 points (5+23) in his 126 appearances with the Bears. Baier was selected by Los Angeles Kings in the third round (95th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Goebel comes to the Amerks after completing his second season at Ohio State University, where he transferred after playing two seasons with the Michigan State Spartans. The right-handed forward earned a total of 115 points (54+61) in his collegiate career. Goebel led OSU with 36 points (21+15) in the 2007-08 season. Prior to college, Goebel played four seasons with the NAHL Cleveland Barons.

Kroll also joins Rochester after a college career with OSU. The 24-year-old defenseman earned 27 points (5+22) in his four years with the Buckeyes. The Plymouth, Minnesota, native spent two years prior to college playing with the Sioux City Musketeers in the USHL. Kroll garnered 39 points (9+30) in his 104 games with the Musketeers.

The Amerks return home from their lengthy road trip on March 21st as they play host to divisional foe the Grand Rapids Griffins. The 7:35 p. m. contest will be the sixth of eight meetings between the two teams this season with the Amerks leading the season series 3-1-0-1. This contest falls on the next installment of the Amerks' Friday Night Frenzies. Fans can enjoy live music from the Ozone Rangers in the main lobby of The Blue Cross Arena up until gametime.
