Rampage Fall to Barracuda 4-3

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage (19-20-7-0) got off to a quick start, but fell to the San Jose Barracuda (19-14-5-3) 4-3 in front of 7,267 at the AT&T Center on Saturday night. The Silver and Black scored two quick goals to take an early 2-0 lead, but the Barracuda answered with four straight, three of which came on the power play, to take a 4-3 win.

With the win, San Jose coach Roy Sommer tied the all-time AHL wins record at 636.

San Antonio got on the board first with a goal from Brandon Gormley, his first of the season since being reassigned to the Rampage on Jan. 13. Scored just 21 seconds into the opening period, the goal marked the fastest goal to start a game this season. Marc-Andre Cliché added to the San Antonio lead near the midway point of the period, collecting a rebound from a Duncan Siemens blast and firing the puck past Aaron Dell to make it 2-0.

Ryan Carpenter got the Barracuda on the board with a power-play goal at 13:50, and the Silver and Black took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

John McCarthy scored the lone tally of the middle frame, and the game was knotted at two until early in the final 20 minutes when Ben Smith scored the go-ahead goal to give San Jose their third unanswered marker and a 3-2 lead. Petter Emanuelsson's backhand flip at 13:59 made it 4-2.

Nick Drazenovic and Borna Rendulic connected on a break for Drazenovic's first of the season, and it appeared the Rampage were gaining some momentum, but were unable to convert to force overtime despite outshooting the Barracuda 9-6 in the final stanza.

San Antonio was 0-for-3 on the power play and San Jose finished with three tallied on four opportunities with the man advantage.

Notes Gormley's goal scored at :21 of the opening frame is the fastest goal to start a game this season and is just two seconds off from the franchise record for fastest goal to start a game, which is 19 seconds by Troy Bodie on Oct. 17, 2009... The three power-play goals allowed by the Rampage is a season high.

Lineup Notes The Rampage line combinations remained nearly identical to Friday night's win over the Barracuda. Patrick Bordeleau drew into the lineup, replacing Dan Maggio on the fourth line.
