January 30, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI--The Admirals exploded for a season high seven goals, including five in the second period alone, as they cruised to a 7-3 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
The seven goals were all scored by different players. The line of Pontus Aberg, Cody Hodgson, and Kevin Fiala each tallied a goal and an assist, while finishing a combined +9. In all ten different players found the scoresheet for Milwaukee, who extended their point streak to five games (4-0-1) with the win and snapped a four-game losing spell against the Griffins.
Marek Mazanec stopped 26 shots on the night for his third win in his past four starts and 12th on the season.
The only goal of the first period came just 1:07 in when Jimmy Oligny fired a wrister from the left point that somehow found its way through traffic and by Grand Rapids goalie Jared Coreau.
In the second period the flood gates open up as the two teams combined for eight goals, five from Milwaukee. Aberg got things going with his team-leading 13th goal of the year 2:16 into the frame. Not long after the fans sat back down, Viktor Arvidsson had them back up again as his wrister from the right dot beat Coreau only 42 seconds after Aberg's tally.
A rocket from the right circle by Hodgson at 5:33 made it 4-0 Admirals and chased Coreau from the net, ending his night. The four goals he gave up were one shy of what he'd allowed in five games against Milwaukee this season.
The two teams alternated the next five goals with the Griffins getting three of them on tallies from Jeff Hogan and a pair from Louis-Marc Aubry, while the Admirals received their two goals from Kevin Fiala and Joe Pendenza.
Jamie Devane finished off the scoring with his fourth goal of the season with 3:51 to play in the game. The Admirals have the next six days off for the AHL All-Star break before make their lone trip of the season to California for a games against Bakersfield next Friday and San Diego on Saturday.
