Cleveland Monsters News Release

CLEVELAND - In front of 9,657 fans at The Q, Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters were defeated by the Texas Stars on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 3-2. With the loss, the Monsters fell to 22-16-4-3 overall this season and with a .567 points percentage, remain alone in fifth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.

Mid-way through a tight-checking opening frame, a defensive-zone miscue for the Monsters allowed Texas forward Radek Faska to pot an unassisted even-strength marker at 11:00 to make it 1-0 Stars. In the second period, Lake Erie tied the game at 7:44 when Trent Vogelhuber re-directed an Eric Roy power-play point shot with Jaime Sifers collecting the secondary assist on the play. The Stars answered back at 9:49 though, as Curtis McKenzie crashed the Monsters' net and poked a rebound past Monsters goaltender Anton Forsberg at even-strength to give Texas a 2-1 advantage.

In the final frame, Lake Erie tied the game for the second time when Daniel Zaar deflected a John Ramage point shot past Texas net-minder Maxime Lagace at 5:15, but an extra-man Faksa score at 13:47 provided the Stars with their final margin of victory at 3-2. Forsberg fell to 13-8-3 overall this season in net for the Monsters despite a 33-save performance, while Lagace stopped 37 of the 39 pucks he faced to earn the win between the pipes for Texas.

Next up for the Monsters, it's a Friday road clash vs. the Charlotte Checkers with full coverage underway, live from Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, NC, at 7:00 pm on ESPN 850 WKNR and the Monsters Hockey Network.
