San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (March 28, 2012) - San Antonio Rampage goaltender Jacob Markstrom made 35 saves to lead the Rampage past the Hamilton Bulldogs, 3-2, on Wednesday night at the AT&T Center.
San Antonio scored the game's first goal 5:29 into the opening period when center Scott Timmins fired a snapshot over the glove of Hamilton backstop Robert Mayer to hand the Rampage a 1-0 advantage. The assists on Timmins' 10th tally of the season went to left wing Evan Barlow and defenseman Sean Sullivan.
Forward Greg Rallo extended San Antonio's lead to 2-0 nearly three minutes later on a wrister that deflected off of Mayer's glove before entering the Bulldogs net. Defenseman Colby Robak tallied his 28th assist of the season with the primary helper on the play while Timmins picked up his second point of the night with the secondary assist. The goal was Rallo's 20th of the campaign.
The Bulldogs cut the Rampage advantage to 2-1 at the 7:15 mark of the second period on a one-timer from defenseman Olivier Malka. He took a pass from forward Travis Novak at the left circle and buried a slap shot past Markstrom for his first goal of the year. Forward Jesse Todd notched the secondary assist on the Malka score.
Center Robert Slaney knotted the score at 2-2 just over six minutes later. He moved to the side of the San Antonio net and slid the puck underneath Markstrom's pads to record his third marker of 2011-12. Defenseman Mark Mitera registered the lone assist on the second Bulldogs goal.
Defenseman Michael Caruso regained the lead for San Antonio at 3-2 with a wrist shot from the blue line that found its way past a screened Mayer with 1:17 remaining in the middle stanza. Forwards Bill Thomas and Mark Cullen posted the assists on Caruso's fifth goal of the campaign.
Markstrom made 35 saves on 37 Bulldogs shots for his 12th win of the season. Mayer turned aside 24 of the 27 Rampage attempts he faced in the Hamilton loss.
The Rampage (36-27-3-2) are back in action on Saturday when they head to Rockford to play a 7:05 p.m. (CST) contest against the IceHogs at BMO Harris Bank Center.
