Rampage Drop 4-2 Decision to Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (March 15, 2014) - The San Antonio Rampage (25-27-3-6) fell 4-2 Saturday night inside the BMO Harris Bradley Center to the Milwaukee Admirals (29-20-6-6) to cap the season series between the two teams.

John McFarland opened the scoring for the Rampage just past the midway point of the first period, while Mike Mottau recorded his 300th professional assist on McFarland's seventh of the year. Ryan Martindale also tallied his seventh of the year when he scored the second goal for the Silver and Black, converting on a shorthanded penalty shot early in the third.

Scott Clemmensen stopped 26-of-30 in the loss as the Admirals outshot the Rampage 30-27.

After killing off two penalties, the Ads got their chance at the extra man and wasted no time in cashing in on the opportunity. Following a rush up the ice, Clemmensen made the initial save on Patrick Cehlin, but former Grand Rapids center Calle Jarnkrok was waiting in the crease to bang home the rebound. His tally at 10:24 of the opening frame gave Milwaukee the 1-0 lead.

Just 3:11 later, McFarland caught the puck from Trevor Lewis, and made a series of beautiful moves to make his way to the net. Bringing the puck through the crease, the winger tapped it behind Milwaukee netminder Scott Darling to knot the game at one at the 13:35 mark.

Lewis earned the primary assist on the marker, with Mike Mottau collecting the secondary.

The two teams traded chances throughout the second, but it was Austin Watson who finally broke the tie at 17:24 as he got a stick on an Anthony Bitetto shot, perfectly deflecting the puck past Clemmensen for the go-ahead goal.

Five minutes into the third, Martindale broke into the zone shorthanded, and was hooked from behind by Cehlin, earning the penalty shot. Making a nice move to beat Darling, Martindale converted to tie the game at two.

The goal was Martindale's fourth since his trade from Oklahoma City to San Antonio. It was the second penalty shot of the year for the Rampage, and fifth in franchise history.

At the 14:34 mark, the Ads took the lead once again. This time it was Mark Van Guilder who cashed in on a Bitetto rebound, tapping it just over Clemmensen to make it 3-2. With 14 seconds remaining in regulation, Miikka Salomaki hit the empty net, effectively icing the game 4-2 in favor of the Admirals.

The Rampage went 0-for-5 with the extra man, while killing off three of Milwaukee's four chances as the Ads went 1-for-4.

The Rampage will travel to Iowa for a 5:05 p.m. game against the Wild on Sunday, the second contest of their five-game road trip and the final time they face Iowa this season. The Rampage return home on March 27 to take on the Texas Stars.
