Wolves' Home Reign Ends
March 15, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves' franchise-record 17-game home point streak came to an end Saturday night as Texas earned a 3-0 victory in front of 11,436 at Allstate Arena.
Jake Allen stopped 28 of 30 shots for the Wolves (35-19-4-2), who were shut out for just the second time this season. Chicago hadn't suffered a regulation loss at home since Dec. 7 and racked up 32 points (15-0-2-0) during its lengthy home point streak.
"I think they played a little better than us," said Wolves head coach John Anderson. "I think they played a little smarter than us. That's it. The game's a step back, but sometimes you have to take a step back to take two steps forward."
Texas (37-17-3-5) opened the scoring at 1:34 of the first period as center Taylor Peters' shot from inside the blue line took an unusual bounce and eluded Allen (26-14-2). Jyrki Jokipakka and Kevin Henderson picked up assists on the play.
The West Division leaders extended their lead to 2-0 at 10:44 of the first when Henderson fired a pass from the blue line to center Taylor Vause, who was open near the bottom of the left circle. Vause one-timed the puck over Allen's shoulder for his second goal of the year.
The Stars picked up an insurance goal with 1:16 to play as Brendan Ranford flipped in an empty-net goal while Texas was shorthanded.
Texas goaltender Jack Campbell (8-1-0) rejected 24 shots to register his second shutout of the year, both of which came in the past week.
The Wolves wrap up their weekend series with Texas at 3 p.m. Sunday. To save on special ticket packages, call 1-800-THE-WOLVES or visit ChicagoWolves.com.
