San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN JOSE - The San Antonio Rampage (15-14-7-0) were defeated by the San Jose Barracuda (16-10-2-3) 6-4 in front of 6,958 at the SAP Center on Saturday night. Chris Bigras, Nikita Zadorov, Sam Henley and Mat Clark each tallied goals for the Rampage, and Reid Petryk finished with three assists.
The Rampage got on the board first, as Clark picked up his first goal of the season at 3:26 of the opening period. The goal marked the 25th goal this season that San Antonio has scored in the first nine minutes and the 37th first-period goal for the Silver and Black.
Bryan Lerg's backhand beat Roman Will at the 6:20 mark, and just 22 seconds later, Barclay Woodrow buried his own rebound to give the Barracuda their first lead of the night. The 22 seconds between goals tied a season record for the fastest two goals allowed by the Rampage. San Jose extended their lead when Micheal Haley collected Ryan Carpenter's backdoor feed and scored to give San Jose its third unanswered goal and a 3-1 lead entering the break.
Haley notched his second of the contest less than two minutes into the middle stanza to extend San Jose's lead to three, but the Rampage answered, as Sam Henley got his stick on a rebound and punched the puck past Troy Grosenick to make it a 4-2 game. Nikolay Goldobin buried a rebound to end the period and the Rampage trailed by three at the second intermission.
Spencer Martin replaced Roman Will, who had allowed five goals on 24 shots, to start the third period. Zadorov potted his eighth of the season less than a minute into the stanza to bring San Antonio within two, but the Barracuda got a goal from Carpenter to take a 6-3 lead at 4:28. Bigras blasted a feed from Petryk past Grosenick late in the game, but despite outshooting the Barracuda 14-7 in the final period, San Antonio was unable to overcome the deficit.
Notes The 10 combined goals between the Rampage and the Barracuda set a new season high for the Silver and Black.
Lineup Notes The Rampage line combinations remained unchanged from Friday night's win over the Bakersfield Condors. Roman Will got the start in net for San Antonio.
Up Next The Rampage wrap up a 3-in-3 on Sunday, taking on the Barracuda at 5 p.m. (CT) at the SAP Center. San Antonio returns home on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. against the Milwaukee Admirals, which will be a Bud Light KISS 99.5 $1 Drink Night at the AT&T Center. Individual and season tickets are available and can be purchased by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com.
