Albany Devils News Release
HARTFORD, CT - The Albany Devils hopes for a seventh consecutive victory were dashed by a former Capital Region resident Sunday afternoon. Ex-Union College captain Mat Bodie scored 19 seconds into overtime to give the Hartford Wolf Pack a 4-3 win at XL Center.
Box Score
The Devils were trying to tie a franchise record for longest winning streak, but despite the loss they earned a point and moved to 22-8-4-0. The Wolf Pack won for the second straight game to improve to 16-19-2-0.
Corey Tropp and Ryan Kujawinski scored two highlight-reel goals for Albany. Tropp scored for the third time in the last four outings and Kujawinski found the back of the net for the first time since returning from injury Saturday. Dan Kelly also scored and Reece Scarlett registered a pair of assists, giving him five in the last three games.
Between the pipes, Yann Danis made 15 stops and Hartford's Magnus Hellberg had 31 saves for his 10th win.
Bodie was one of four Hartford players with multi-point efforts. Josh Nicholls had the game-tying goal and an assist and Ryan Bourque and Brady Skjei both had two assists. Marek Hrivik and Chris McCarthy also had tallies.
After Hrivik started the scoring at 4:59 of the first, Tropp tied the game by toe-dragging around a Hartford defender and finding the upper-left corner on his backhand. The goal, which came at 17:53, was his 10th tally.
Kelly gave Albany its first of two leads 3:48 into the second period when his point shot pin-balled past Hellberg. McCarthy responded at 10:21, but Kujawinski showed mesmerizing speed to split the defense and score on a breakaway at 17:11 on the power play.
In the third, Nicholis cashed in off a rebound at 3:05 to even the score. Bodie used a slapper from the high slot for the game-winner.
The Devils return to action Wednesday with a 7 pm contest against the Rochester Americans at Times Union Center.
