
Rainiers Shut Out By Chihuahuas, 5-0

EL PASO, Texas. - The Tacoma Rainiers (10-4) notched just five hits in a 5-0 shutout loss to the El Paso Chihuahuas (4-9) on Thursday night at Southwest University Ballpark.
Center fielder Boog Powell (1x3) was one of five Rainiers players to record a hit in the contest and produced the club's only extra base hit, a double in the third inning. Third baseman Chris Taylor (1x3) extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single in the eighth inning.
Tacoma starting pitcher Adrian Sampson (2-1) allowed five runs on 10 hits over 5.0 innings of work. He issued one walk and struck out three.
After going hitless in their first two turns at the plate, the Chihuahuas strung together five hits and produced two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.
An RBI double from Carlos Asuaje and a two-run home run by Hunter Renfroe gave El Paso three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, extending their lead to 5-0.
Justin De Fratus relieved Sampson in the sixth inning and finished the game with 3.0 innings of shutout work. He allowed just two hits while walking one with no strikeouts.
The Rainiers wrap up their road trip with a fourth and final game against the Chihuahuas tomorrow, Friday, April 22. Tacoma is scheduled to start right-hander Donn Roach (1-0, 8.38), while El Paso will turn to righty Greg Reynolds (0-1, 7.27). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. PT.
