Iowa Cubs News Release

Des Moines, IA - Right-hander Pierce Johnson was activated from the disabled list today, and will take the start for Iowa against New Orleans at 7 p.m.

Johnson was sidelined for nine days after he was hit by a comeback line drive on April 11 in his first start of the season. Johnson had tossed 2.1 innings when he was nabbed in the right forearm by the liner. He completed the inning, but was relieved in the fourth.

Drafted by the Cubs in the first round (43rd overall) of the 2012 draft, 2016 marks Johnson's first appearance at the Triple-A level. He is hailed as the Cubs' 12th-best prospect according to Baseball America.

Johnson takes the active roster spot of Scott Barnes, who suffered a right calf strain and was placed on the disabled list today. Barnes is 1-2 with a 7.00 ERA through five appearances and one start for the I-Cubs this season.

Iowa wraps up the series at New Orleans, Friday at 7 p.m. before returning to Principal Park for an eight-game set beginning Saturday, April 23 at 7:08 p.m. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
