Isotopes Win Third Straight, Defeat Aces 4-1

April 21, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes (8-6) defeated the Reno Aces on Wednesday night at Isotopes Park, their third-straight victory and fifth win in a row against the Aces.

The contest was scoreless through five and half frames until Ryan Casteel delivered an RBI-single, scoring Mike Tauchman and giving the Isotopes a 1-0 advantage.

Just one batter later, Will Swanner connected on his first Triple-A home run, a two-run shot to left-center, extending the Albuquerque lead to 3-0.

Isotopes starting pitcher Shane Carle exited the contest without allowing a run to the Aces. The right-hander tossed 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing seven hits, walking two, and striking out six. The outing by Carle marked his first quality start of the season for the Isotopes.

Albuquerque was able to add a run in the bottom of the eighth, with Tauchman crossing the plate after Jordan Patterson bounced into a double play. Patterson went hitless on the night, snapping his team-best 10-game hitting streak. The 24-year-old's on-base streak will carry on after walking twice in the contest. Patterson has now reached base in all 14 games the Isotopes have played this season.

The action was not contained to the field, however. The 4,852 fans that were in attendance at Isotopes Park devoured a whopping 26,413 hot dogs on 50 cent Hot Dog Night, an average on 5.4 dogs per fan.

The Isotopes and Aces continue their four-game set Thursday evening at Isotopes Park. Ryan Carpenter (0-1, 4.91) gets the nod for Albuquerque. The southpaw has yet to issue a walk on the year. He will be opposed by Reno right-hander Branden Shipley (2-0, 3.97). First pitch from Isotopes Park is set for 6:35 p.m.
