Rainiers pull out victory in eigth

TACOMA, Wash. - Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-4 and broke a tie game with an RBI double in the eighth inning to give the Tacoma Rainiers a 4-3 victory over the Portland Beavers Thursday night at Cheney Stadium.

Tacoma's Jamal Strong scored the winning run and had two hits, including a two-run home run that tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the third.

Seattle Mariners prospect Felix Hernandez (9-4) got the win with two innings of scoreless relief. Triple-A All-Star Masao Kida earned his 14th save for the Rainiers (50-40).

Portland's Scott Stewart (1-4) suffered the loss after allowing Choo's double in the eighth.

Fresh off his strong showing in the Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, J.J Furmaniak belted a three-run home run in the third to give the Beavers (45-46) a 3-1 lead.

Choo tripled with one out in the first inning and gave the Rainiers their first lead on Greg Dobbs' RBI single off Portland starter Justin Germano.

NOTES: Catcher Miguel Ojeda and pitcher Brian Falkenborg both played for Portland after being added to the active roster from San Diego on Thursday.
