SALT LAKE CITY-The Stingers announced today that RHP Mike Brunet has been given his unconditional release. There are currently 12 pitchers and 11 position players on Salt Lake's roster, putting the Stingers at 23 players, one below the PCL limit of 24.

Brunet, 28, posted a 5-3 record and 7.93 ERA (28.2 IP - 24 ER) with 39 hits allowed, 12 walks and 25 strikeouts in 19 games with the Stingers this season. He was placed on the disabled list on June 3 with right shoulder tendonitis and was activated on June 25. Brunet posted a 2-8 record and 6.51 ERA (65 IP - 47 ER) with 29 walks and 49 strikeouts in 13 games (12 starts) with the Stingers in 2004. He was placed on the disabled list on June 28, 2004 with a strained lower back and missed the rest of the season. Brunet was granted free agency on October 15, 2004. He signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres and was released after spring training. The Angels signed him as a free agent just prior to the 2005 season and he began the campaign with Salt Lake.

The Tampa, Florida native played with current Stinger Greg Jones at Pasco Hernando Junior College. Brunet missed the entire 2000-01 seasons due to injury. Originally selected by the Angels in the 5th round of the 1997 free agent draft, Brunet currently resides in Land O'Lakes, Florida.
