Rainiers Post Biggest Comeback Of The Year, Top Sounds 8-6

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Tacoma Rainiers (32-33) scored seven unanswered runs across the seventh and eighth innings to post an 8-6 victory over the Nashville Sounds (30-32) on Monday night at First Tennessee Park.

Center fielder Ian Miller (3x4, 2 R, 2 2B, 3 RBI) and shortstop Gordon Beckham (3x4, R, 2 2B, RBI, BB) - the top two batters in the Tacoma lineup - combined to reach base eight times while collecting four extra-base hits and four RBI to lead the Rainiers offense. Third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean (2x4, 2 R) also collected multiple hits, and designated hitter John Andreoli (1x3, RBI, 2 BB) reached base three times.

Overall, the Rainiers offense collected 13 hits and four walks while going 6-for-17 with runners in scoring position to fuel a comeback victory. The offensive outburst gave Tacoma their first road series win against an American Conference foe since August 2014.

The Rainiers entered the seventh inning trailing the Sounds 6-1 and proceeded to mount their biggest rally of the season. Miller slapped a go-ahead two-run double down the left field line in the top of the eighth inning to put the Rainiers out in front and secure the victory.

Tacoma starting pitcher Christian Bergman worked five innings and allowed six runs on eight hits. He issued one walk and struck out six on 80 pitches (54 strikes) and did not factor into the decision.

Tucker Healy (0.2 IP), Matt Tenuta (1.2 IP), Darin Gillies (0.2 IP), and Tyler Higgins (1.0 IP) combined to hold the Sounds scoreless on three hits over the final four innings while the offense made their move. Tenuta (1-0) earned his first win of the year, while Higgins logged his first save. The bullpen struck out six and issued no walks.

The Rainiers enjoy a day off on Tuesday to travel back to Cheney Stadium, where they will kick off a seven-game homestand beginning on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. PT. Tacoma will host the Omaha Storm Chasers for three games, and the Iowa Cubs for four games during the homestand.
