Express INF Christian Lopes Named PCL Player of the Week

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Pacific Coast League announced on Monday afternoon that Round Rock Express INF Christian Lopes has been named the league's Player of the Week from June 4-10. Lopes led a red-hot E-Train offense that scored 69 runs in six games during the week.

The infielder posted multi-hit performances in each of his five starts from June 4-10, combining to hit 12-20 with three doubles, a triple, three home runs, nine RBI and nine runs scored. His 26 total bases during the span led all of Minor League Baseball. He also led Triple-A Baseball with a .640 on-base percentage, 1.300 slugging percentage and 1.940 OPS.

Lopes' most impressive performance during the hot stretch came on June 8 at Las Vegas as the 25-year-old finished 2-3 with two home runs and four RBI, tallying his first career multiple-homer game in the process. He recorded the first-ever inside-the-park home run in Round Rock Express franchise history in the eighth inning before adding a solo shot in the ninth to pace a 12-5 victory.

The California native followed up with a solo homer in an 18-7 win over the 51s on June 9, marking the first time in his seven-year professional career that Lopes has homered in back-to-back games. This marks Lopes' first season within the Texas Rangers organization after spending his first six professional seasons within the Toronto Blue Jays system. He was originally selected by the team in the seventh round of the 2011 draft.

The honor is the first Pacific Coast League award for a Round Rock player this season. Lopes and the Express go for a series sweep over the Las Vegas 51s on Monday night. E-Train LHP David Hurlbut (2-4, 5.51) is scheduled to face 51s RHP Corey Oswalt (3-3, 6.32). First pitch at Cashman Field is set for 9:05 p.m.
