Rainiers Doubled Up In 8-4 Series Opening Loss To River Cats

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (8-8) couldn't catch up to the Sacramento River Cats (7-9) and fell in the series opener, 8-4, on Saturday night at Cheney Stadium.

Right fielder Cameron Perkins led the way on offense for Tacoma, going 3-for-5 with three singles and two runs scored. His was the only multi-hit effort in the Rainiers lineup, however first baseman Matt Hague drove in two RBI on a 1-for-3 night.

Rainiers starting pitcher Casey Lawrence worked 4.0 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out seven.

Right-hander Josh Smith (3.0 IP) and southpaw Dario Alvarez (2.0 IP) saw time out of the Tacoma bullpen, combining to allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits with four strikeouts.

Tacoma and Sacramento continue their series on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. PT. Left-hander Ariel Miranda (0-0, 6.75) will start for the Rainiers opposite River Cats starting right-hander Casey Kelly (1-1, 7.11).
