Isotopes End Skid with 7-5 Victory

The Isotopes (7-9) ended their three-game losing streak Friday night with a 7-5 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers (8-7) in the series finale at Cheney Stadium.

Albuquerque was limited to four runs in the first three games of the series before exploding for seven runs and 13 hits on Friday against Tacoma. Five Isotopes recorded multi-hit games while Drew Weeks led the team with two RBI. The Isotopes did most of their damage at the plate in the fourth inning, scoring three runs on RBI hits from Weeks, Daniel Castro and Anthony Phillips.

Castro ended the night 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and an RBI. The infielder established a new career high with a 14-game hitting streak, which is also the longest active streak in all of Minor League Baseball. Castro has recorded 26 hits in 15 games played this season for a .441 batting average (26-for-59).

Reliever Shane Broyles earned the win on the mound, yielding just one run in 2.0 innings pitched. Starting pitcher David Holmberg went 4.2 innings, allowing three runs and eight hits in his third start of the season. DJ Johnson retired all five batters he faced to end the game, picking up his first save of the campaign.

The Isotopes continue their road trip on Saturday, beginning a three-game set against the Salt Lake Bees at Smith's Ballpark. Matt Flemer (1-0, 9.45) will take the mound for the Isotopes while the Bees have fellow right-hander Parker Bridwell (0-0, 9.31) slated to start. First pitch from Salt Lake is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.?
