Omaha Quiets Redbirds 5-0 to Earn Series Split

April 21, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Omaha catcher Parker Morin and shortstop Ramon Torres combined for seven of the Storm Chasers' 12 hits, while starting pitcher Heath Fillmyer fired six scoreless innings and the bullpen duo of Kevin Lenik and Mike Broadway tossed the final three perfect frames in a 5-0 shutout victory over the Memphis Redbirds on Friday evening at Werner Park.

Royals All-Star catcher Salvador Perez tallied a hit in his fourth and final at-bat of the evening as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment. Perez has recorded a hit in each of his five games between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Omaha during his rehab assignment. Kansas City All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon did not record a knock in four plate appearances, though he did reach base on a fielder's choice before eventually scoring from second on a single.

Fillmyer (6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, 6 K) was filthy in his six frames pitched and finished strong, retiring eight of the final nine batters faced to earn his first career Triple-A victory. The Redbirds reached second base just twice throughout the entire evening and were not able to advance any further.

Lenik (2.0 IP, K) and Broadway (1.0 IP, 2 K) finished what Fillmyer started by setting down the final nine batters in order, including three punchouts, for Omaha's second shutout triumph of 2018. Memphis starter Daniel Poncedeleon (6.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, ER, BB, 4 K) suffered the defeat despite a quality outing.

Morin collected the first of his four knocks with an RBI single in the second to put the Storm Chasers on the board at 1-0. Three frames later, he scored via a Redbirds fielding miscue after leading off the fifth with a two-bagger. RF Tyler Collins later slapped an RBI single to right to score Gordon to increase the advantage to three, prior to a pair of bases-loaded walks capped Omaha's scoring in the eighth.

The four-hit effort tied a career-high for Morin (4-4, 2 R, 2B, RBI), matching his four knocks on August 19, 2015 with Double-A Northwest Arkansas. Torres (3-4, R, 2 2B) was the only other Storm Chasers batter to tally a multi-hit effort, while no Memphis hitters posted more than one knock.

Following their series split with the Redbirds, Omaha is set to start a three-game series with the Nashville Sounds on Saturday night at Werner Park. First pitch of the series opener is slated for 7:05 p.m. CT. RHP Trevor Oaks (0-2, 3.31) is expected to get the nod for the Storm Chasers, with the Sounds anticipated to counter with RHP Frankie Montas (0-1, 6.75).

Tickets are still available for that game and all Storm Chasers contests throughout the 2018 season, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100. To view Ticket Office hours, please click .
