Fresno Grizzlies News Release
The Fresno Grizzlies (12-4) picked up their fourth straight series win after stomping the Las Vegas 51s (5-11) 12-4 Friday night from Cashman Field. After being held to one run on Wednesday, Fresno rebounded the past two nights, scoring 22 runs on 31 hits. Every Grizzlies' batter reached base once, while six had multiple hits and runs en route to the victory.
Fresno drew first blood in the top of the second when Alejandro Garcia (3-for-4) laced a two-run single to center. Then, Tony Kemp (2-for-6) flared a RBI single to left, making it 3-0.
The deficit was cut to 3-1 in the bottom of the second when Phillip Evans blasted a pitch to left-center. It was his first home run of the season.
Tim Federowicz (2-for-4) extended the Grizzly advantage to 4-1 in the top of the third when he sliced a single to right, scoring Kyle Tucker (3-for-6). Later, Jack Mayfield (2-for-4) knocked a two-run double to left. Finally, Kemp drove in another run when he blooped a single to left. After sending nine to the plate, Fresno led 7-1. That would be the final inning for 51s starter P.J. Conlon (0-1). He was dealt the loss after throwing three innings, allowing eight hits, seven runs (earned), walking a pair and striking out three.
J.D. Davis (2-for-5) expanded the lead to 10-1 when he launched a three-run bomb to left in the top of the fourth. It was his second homer of the season. Later, Mayfield jacked a two-run shot to left, giving Fresno an 11-run advantage. That would be his fourth big fly of the season.
Las Vegas would add three runs in the bottom of the eighth from a Ty Kelly single and Bryce Brentzhomer. It was his third longball of the season. The 12-4 lead was enough for Matt Ramsey, who struck out the side in the ninth.
Kent Emanuel (2-0) enjoyed the run support, earning the win. He lasted five and two-thirds innings, scattering four hits, one run (earned) and punching out seven. On the season, he has given up two runs on nine hits in 16 and two-thirds innings while striking out 16 and walking only two.
The week-long road trip will continue for the Grizzlies as they stay in Nevada to face the Reno Aces. The probable starters in the first of three at Greater Nevada Field are Fresno RHP Mike Hauschild (1-1, 4.80) and Reno RHP Taylor Clarke (1-2, 8.31). First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 PT.
