TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (12-13) narrowly avoided being no-hit by the Albuquerque Isotopes (11-15) in a 3-1 loss at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Isotopes carried a combined no-hitter into the bottom of the ninth inning but were turned away by a leadoff infield single from Rainiers center fielder Ian Miller.

Miller and second baseman Gordon Beckham combined to reach base five times, thanks to three walks from Beckham and another from Miller.

Rainiers starting pitcher Christian Bergman (2-2) took the loss despite turning in his second quality start of the season. He worked 7.0 innings and allowed three runs on nine hits while striking out two and walking one.

Shawn Armstrong (1.0 IP) and Erik Goeddel (1.0 IP) combined to hold the Isotopes without a baserunner over the final two frames of the night.

Tacoma and Albuquerque continue their series on Wednesday night at Cheney Stadium with a 7:05 p.m. PT first pitch. Rainiers left-hander Roenis Elias (0-0, 0.00) will start opposite Isotopes southpaw David Holmberg (0-2, 11.12).
