Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - Iowa (5-19) dropped its third game of the series with Omaha (10-16) 8-7 in a 10-inning contest, Wednesday at Principal Park. The Storm Chasers tagged right-handed starter Jen-Ho Tseng for seven earned runs off seven hits, with six coming in the third inning.

Omaha jumped to an early one-run lead in the first off a triple and fielder's choice, and continued the offensive barrage into the third. Tseng surrendered a single, double, two walks and a grand slam as the Storm Chasers ran away with the lead.

Iowa's offense was quick to answer back with third baseman David Bote igniting the run production in the third with an RBI single to get the Cubs on the board. First baseman Efren Navarro followed up with a two-run shot to right to chip away at the seven-run deficit, marking his fifth hit and fifth RBI in the series.

The Cubs continued to close the gap in the fourth with two runs by way of a Wynton Bernard fielder's choice and Bote single to make it a 7-5 game. Bernard would end the day leading the offense going 2-for-4, with both Taylor Davis and Bote going 2-for-5.

Tseng exited the game after five, giving up seven earned runs off seven hits, with five walks and five strikeouts and received a no-decision.

The Iowa bullpen continued to lock down the late innings, as Alberto Baldonado tossed 3.0 frames of one-hit baseball with four strikeouts. He built on a strong stretch, allowing two hits and one earned run over 8.0 innings.

Right-hander Justin Hancock answered the call in the ninth and posted a scoreless inning to give the Cubs a chance to answer back in the bottom.

Just as effective, Omaha's 'pen kept the Iowa offense to minimal production, until Mark Zagunis hit his second home run of the series to make it a 7-7 game, leading to a PCL-leading sixth extra-inning contest.

The shaky defense proved costly, as Omaha scored its go-ahead run off errors by Bote and Bernard in the top of the 10th, leading to Hancock's second loss and Iowa's fourth in extras.

Iowa and Omaha play the series finale tomorrow at 12:08 p.m. CT tomorrow at Principal Park. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
