Memphis Wins Wild One over Oklahoma City

MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds (19-8) cranked out 16 hits, their most since the third game of the season, and were 7-for-16 with runners in scoring position in an 8-7 win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers (Dodgers) Wednesday night at AutoZone Park.

Every Memphis starting position player had at least one hit and six had multiple hits, led by Tyler O'Neill's 3-for-5 game. Max Schrock, Yairo Munoz, Patrick Wisdom, Carson Kelly, and Wilfredo Tovar had two hits for the Redbirds. Six Redbirds had a two-out RBI in a game in which the wind was blowing out but neither team had a home run despite combining for 15 runs and 27 hits.

Memphis fell behind 3-1 before scoring two runs in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, with the four runs in the fifth and sixth all coming with two outs.

Daniel Poncedeleon started and went 3.2 innings, giving up three runs on four hits with five walks, and Sean Gilmartin earned the win with 2.1 innings of relief allowing just one unearned run. He struck out three.

The Dodgers pulled within a run at 7-6 after scoring two in the top of the seventh off Derian Gonzalez, but Memphis answered back with a run in the home-half before handing the ball to John Brebbia, who worked the final 2.0 innings to earn the save.

Oklahoma City scored a run in the top of the ninth and had the potential tying run on third with one out, but Brebbia got a pop-out and a strikeout to seal the win.

The Dodgers made three errors, left 13 runners on base, and were 6-for-21 with runners in scoring position.

Memphis and Oklahoma City finish their four-game series, which ends the Redbirds' nine-game homestand, tomorrow night at 7:05.
