EASTLAKE, OH - Following a one-hour, 44 minute rain delay - a delay longer than the game itself (1:40) - Friday night's game between the Great Lakes Loons and Lake County Captains was called after five innings (plus two outs), with the Great Lakes Loons winning the shortened contest, 4-3.

Pedro Guerrero's sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning proved to be the difference in the game. It snapped a 3-3 tie and gave the Loons the lead for good.

Darnell Sweeney hit a two-run home run - his fifth homer of the year - in the third inning off starter Danny Jimenez.

With the Loons ahead 3-0, the Captains pushed across three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the score. Jake Lowery drove home the tying run with a two-run double.

Duke von Schamann (3-3) captured the shortened victory for the Loons. He allowed those three runs in the fourth but pitched five innings without a walk, striking out three.

Jimenez (1-2) took the loss allowing seven hits and four runs (all earned) in 5 2/3 innings.

Heavy rains forced a delay in the game with two outs and a 2-2 count on Jeff Hunt in the top of the sixth inning. Following the delay, the Captains grounds crew worked hard to make the field playable and but following the lengthy delay and with consultation with both managers and front office members of the Captains, the field was deemed to unplayable to continue.

The Loons (22-25 second half, 56-61 overall) pull to within three games of the Captains for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Division with the victory.

The Loons begin a three-game series with the Lansing Lugnuts and a six-game homestand at Dow Diamond Saturday night at 7:05pm. Right-handed pitcher Arismendy Ozoria (8-6, 4.53) is scheduled to start for the Loons against lefty Justin Nicolino (7-4, 2.63). Tickets are available for the game at Loons.com or by calling 989-837-BALL. The game features Star Wars Night festivities and a post-game Fireworks Loontacular, powered by Dow Corning.
