Great Lakes Wins Rain-Shortened Game 4-3

Lake County Captains News Release


(Eastlake, OH) - The Great Lakes Loons (22-25, 56-61) defeated The Lake County Captains (25-22, 56-60) by a final of 4-3 in five innings. Great Lakes won the two game series by taking the last two games of the series. The Captains have had four games rain shortened at Classic Park. Lake County had a record of 1-3 in those ballgames. The Captains have also have one game cancelled due to rain.

Great Lakes took the lead in the top of the third inning. Jeff Hunt lead off with a single to right field and later scored on the fifth homerun of the season to deep left field. The score was 2-0 headed to the fourth inning. In the top of the fourth inning, Nick Akins singled to center field and Pratt Maynard doubled him home and the score was 3-0 Great Lakes headed to the bottom of the fourth.

In the bottom half of the third inning Lake County scored three runs on four hits. Jerrud Sabourin singled home Francisco Lindor, and the Captains were on the board it was 3-1. The inning continued as Luigi Rodriguez singled Sabourin to second base. Both Sabourin and Rodriguez scored on a double by Jake Lowery. The ball hit off the base of the wall in dead center field and the game was all tied up at 3-3.

Great Lakes re-took the lead in the fifth. Darnell Sweeney singled on the infield to lead off the inning. Sweeney stole second base and swiped third as well. The two stolen bases put Sweeney at third with no one out. Pedro Guerrero hit a sacrifice fly to right field. Racing home to score the go-ahead run was Sweeney and the score was 4-3 Loons.

LHP Danny Jimenez (1-2) got the start for Lake County. Jimenez took the loss, he pitched five and two thirds innings. He allowed seven hits, four earned runs, two walks, three strikeouts and he allowed one homerun.

RHP Duke von Schamann (3-3) started the ballgame for Great Lakes. Von Schamann pitched all five innings allowing five hits, three earned runs, and three strikeouts. Schamann earned the win.

Lake County will hit the road on Saturday and travel to South Bend, IND. The Captains ill open up a three game series against the Silver Hawks. Lake County will start RHP Mason Radeke (5-5, 3.67) and South Bend will counter with LHP Keith Hessler (1-1, 2.56). Game Time is at 7:05 PM
