Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Led by offensive efforts by three newcomers, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Rochester Red Wings 11-6 on Tuesday night at Frontier Field.
The Red Wings struck first as Carter Kieboom touched up Brody Koerner for a solo home run in the bottom of the first. The right-hander settled in after that and allowed just one more run in his 4.1 innings of work, striking out four and not allowing a hit.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre took the lead in the top of the third when Estevan Florial launched a two-run home run against Ben Braymer. It was Florial's first home run in Triple-A, and his fifth of the season combined with Double-A Somerset.
In the top of the fourth, the RailRiders exploded for five runs and sent 10 batters to the plate. Zack Zehner led off the inning with a triple and scored on a Rob Brantly single. A Hoy Park RBI single and a three-run home run from Brandon Wagner helped the Baby Bombers extend a 7-1 advantage.
Rob Brantly tacked on the third Scranton/Wilkes-Barre home run of the night leading off the fifth. Rochester added a run in the bottom of the fifth on a Daniel Palka home run and another in the eighth against Reggie McClain.
The RailRiders padded their lead with more runs in the top of the ninth, with three straight run-scoring hits from Thomas Milone, Cristian Perez and Park. In his Triple-A debut, Park went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Milone also made his Triple-A debut, and finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
Addison Russ allowed a three-run home run to Yasmany Tomas in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, but that was as close as Rochester would get.
Four SWB hitters had multi-RBI games, while four also contributed two hits. The pitching staff combined for 10 strikeouts and forced the Red Wings to strand the bases loaded twice.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre continues its six-game series at the Rochester on Wednesday afternoon. RHP Nick Green (0-0, 4.50) takes the mound for the RailRiders, while RHP Rogelio Armenteros (0-1, 10.13) climbs the hill for the Red Wings. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m., with coverage on the RailRiders Baseball Network beginning at 12:45 p.m.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre returns home to PNC Field on Tuesday, May 25 with a date against the Buffalo Bisons. For tickets and more information, call (570) 969-BALL or slide to www.swbrailriders.com/tickets.
