Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM - Bulls starting pitcher Drew Strotman struck out eight batters over six solid innings to earn his third victory while designated hitter Ryan Boldt homered, recording four RBI, and third baseman Taylor Walls drove in two runs in Durham's 7-2 triumph over the Charlotte Knights in front of 2,642 fans on Tuesday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Strotman (6.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 0 BB, 8 K) was excellent in his six innings of work, retiring 18 of the 20 batters he faced. His lone blemishes were a first-inning infield single and 3B Jake Burger's solo shot in the fourth. That longball ended Strotman's stretch of 13.2 consecutive scoreless innings to begin the year. Bulls relievers Brent Honeywell Jr. (1.0 IP), Adam Conley (1.0 IP, H, R, ER) and Trevor Richards (1.0 IP, H, 2 K) finished the job by firing the final three frames, while Charlotte starter Reynaldo Lopez (1.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, K) suffered the defeat.
Durham got off to a strong start with a four-spot in the opening frame. RF Vidal Brujan singled and then moved to third on SS Wander Franco's double before both came plateward on Walls' two-run single to right. Two batters later, Boldt bashed a two-run blast to the center field berm to make it 4-0. LF Nathan Lukes' solo shot one inning later made it 5-0. After Burger homered, Boldt drove in his third and fourth runs with sacrifice flies in the sixth and eighth frames.
The Bulls and Knights are set to continue their six-game series on Wednesday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm ET. RHP Adrian De Horta (0-1, 12.46) is anticipated to get the nod for Durham, while Charlotte is expected to send RHP Mike Wright (0-1, 3.60) to the hill. Tickets with socially-distanced seating for that game and all remaining Bulls home games in May are available at durhambulls.com.
