RailRiders Close Syracuse Series with Another Win

MOOSIC, PA. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders took down the Syracuse Mets 3-2 on Sunday afternoon. Jake Lamb and Jamie Westbrook homered in the series finale victory.

Syracuse got on the board first in the top of the second when after a single and a walk, Pennsylvania native Brandon McIlwain singled in a run.

Carlos Cortes led off the top of the fourth with a solo shot to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.

SWB broke through in the bottom of the sixth when a pair of walks put two on with two outs for Jake Lamb. The lefty launched his first home run in a RailRiders uniform 352 feet. The three-run bomb gave the home team a 3-2 advantage.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, SWB added some insurance runs. Franchy Cordero walked and Carlos Narvaez was hit by a pitch to put two on. Jamie Westbrook went yard; his 17th homer of the season was a three-run shot that gave Scranton/Wilkes-Barre some added run support. At the end of eight innings SWB held a 6-2 lead that they'd hold onto to secure the series victory.

Edgar Barclay started for SWB giving up just two runs in 4.2 innings with seven strikeouts. Michael Gomez, Zach Greene (W, 2-0) and Aaron McGarity combined to toss 3.1 scoreless innings. Nick Ramirez slammed the door shut in the ninth.

Mike Vasil (L, 0-2) pitched 5.2 innings in the start with three runs allowed.
