Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, Ind. - Drew Martinez scampered home on a wild pitch by T-Bones reliever Chad Robinson to give the RailCats a 4-3 victory on Tuesday afternoon. The RailCats have now won six in a row and improve to 22-15, while Kansas City fell to 15-23.

In the bottom of the ninth, Martinez led off the inning with a line drive double into right-center field. After Danny Pulfer sacrificed him to third, pinch-hitter Ryan Babineau struck out against Robinson. Then with Adam Klein at the plate, Robinson's pitch went wild allowing the RailCats to walk-off for the third time during the six-game win streak.

Both RailCats starter Will Krout and T-Bones starter Lucas Irvine retired the first six hitters they faced to open the game. In the third, Krout had made it eight in a row retired before Kansas City broke through with two out. Jeff Squier tripled to right-center and Justin Bass shot a double down the right field line to score Squier and give the T-Bones a 1-0 advantage.

Irvine was perfect through three innings before walking Adam Klein to start the fourth. Mike Massaro followed with an RBI double to center to score Klein and tie the game at one. Massaro was thrown out at third trying to turn the hit into a triple. Massaro is 9-for-24 (.375) during the first six games of the homestand with eight RBI.

The pitcher's duel continued and kept the game tied until the seventh inning. Devin Goodwin led off with a single for Kansas City and stole second, moving to third when Brandon Jones reached on an infield hit. Ray Sadler lifted a sacrifice fly to center to put the T-Bones in front 2-1.

Craig Maddox started the bottom of the frame with a single to right for the RailCats. Christian Vitters lined a ground-rule double to the gap in right-center to put runners on second and third. Brian Kolb then singled down the right field line to score Maddox and tie the game at two. Kolb extended his hit streak to 12 games in a row, and has driven in eight runs during the streak.

Irvine was chased from the game after the single. Lefty Jose Jimenez came on in relief and struck out Drew Martinez before giving up a run-scoring single to pinch-hitter Danny Pulfer that gave the RailCats a 3-2 lead.

In the top of the eighth, the T-Bones rallied to tie the game against reliever Marco Gonzalez. Justin Bass led off the inning with a double and had to be removed from the game after it with a leg injury. Pitcher Ethan Cole pinch-ran and moved to third on Kennard Jones' fly out to left. After an infield single, Matt Padgett hit a flair to shallow left that was caught by shortstop Christian Vitters. Cole tested the arm of Vitters and narrowly beat the throw home to tie the game at three.

The game stayed that way thanks to Clay Zavada's 11th consecutive scoreless inning in the top of the ninth, setting up the RailCats for their fifth walk-off win of the season.

Will Krout turned in his best start the season with seven terrific innings. The righty allowed two runs on six hits, one walk and four strikeouts, it was his second quality start of the season against the T-Bones.
