Laredo Lemurs News Release
Wichita, KS - The Wichita Wingnuts (24-14) opened up the three game series with the Laredo Lemurs (22-15) with a 20-6 win at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.
Greg Wilborn (0-1) was making his for start for Lemurs since getting hit in the head with a line drive off the bat of Jose Garcia in Fargo, back on May 24, 2013. Wilborn opened up the bottom of the first looking rusty as he left a few pitches over plate that got deposited over the left center field wall. The first homerun came off the bat of C.J. Zeigler that drove in two. Brent Clevlan followed up with a solo shot that put the Wingnuts up 4-0 after one full inning of play.
The Wingnuts would strike for three in the third and pilled on nine runs in the fourth. In that inning Wilborn gave up another homerun to C.J. Zeigler for his second of the night, and his league leading 15th of the season, to make it 10-0 Wingnuts. That at bat would end Wilborn's night, as he pitched three innings, giving up 10 runs, on eight hits, with four walks, and a strikeout, on 85 pitches thrown.
Edwin Walker took over for the Lemurs in the fourth and he didn't fare any better, as he gave up six runs, on five hits, with three walks, and a strikeout. Altogether the Lemurs would give up nine runs, on seven hits, with four walks, in the fourth to give the Wingnuts a 16-0 lead.
The Lemurs would put three runs on the board in the seventh with Palemr Karr Jr. cranking his sixth homerun of the season to lead off the inning. The Lemurs would score three more in the third with one batter scoring on a wild pitch and two others scoring when Garrett Rau and Garrett Buechele were hit by pitches in back-to-back at bats to give the Lemurs six runs on the night.
Wingnuts starter Ryan Hinson (6-1) picked up the win going six, without giving up a run, on five hits, with five strikeouts.
