Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Two solo home runs put the Gary SouthShore RailCats ahead for good in their series opener against the Sioux Falls Canaries at Sioux Falls Stadium on Wednesday night. The Birds dropped the game 4-1.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Birds, and assured the RailCats of a playoff spot in the North Division.

Sioux Falls threatened in the bottom of the first, loading the bases with no one out. A Jabari Henry double-play ball brought in a run, but Patrick Fiala flew out to end the inning.

Gary SouthShore tied the game at 1 on a third-inning solo home run by K. C. Huth. It was Huth's first home run as a RailCat after being traded from Cleburne earlier this year.

Another RailCats solo homer, this time from team home run leader Colin Willis, made it 2-1 Gary SouthShore in the fourth.

Both starters settled in from there. Birds starter Mark Seyler allowed two runs on five hits over six innings of work, walking two and striking out one.

Austin Wright, making his second start as a RailCat, allowed one run in 6.1 innings, striking out nine.

The RailCats took a 4-1 lead in the eighth, plating two unearned runs after a pair of errors by Canaries relief pitcher Nicco Blank.

Jorge De Leon worked two scoreless innings to earn his first save of the year.
