Wichita Wingnuts News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Kansas City starter Tommy Collier struck out a season-high 12 hitters over 6.2 scoreless innings, helping the T-Bones shut out the Wichita Wingnuts 6-0 on Thursday night at T-Bones Stadium.
The loss drops Wichita (59-37) to 1.5 games back of the T-Bones with one game remaining between the two teams and only four games remaining in the regular season.
Collier (12-3) showed why he is the league-leader in strikeouts, punching out at least two batters in five of his first six innings. The righty did not allow multiple runners on base in one inning until the final two hitters he faced both singled in the seventh. Collier surrendered six hits, five singles, without issuing a walk on the evening.
The T-Bones (60-35) seized the advantage in the first inning, courtesy of a two-out RBI single from Colin Walsh that scored Mason Davis for a 1-0 lead. Casey Harman (11-5) could not stem the tide, allowing three more runs in the fourth on a two-run single from Ryan Brett and another run-scoring single from Mason Davis that pushed the lead to 4-0.
Kansas City got another RBI single in the fifth from Keith Curcio, marking the end for Harman. Scott Kuzminsky and Steve Pastora pitched well in relief, allowing just one run the rest of the way on an Adrian Nieto solo homer in the seventh.
Marcus Crescentini and Cody Winiarski worked the final 2.1 innings out of the T-Bones bullpen to close out the victory.
The Wingnuts wrap up their series with Kansas City on Friday night. Seth Harvey (7-1, 2.61) gets the ball for Wichita, while the T-Bones will counter with Barrett Astin (9-3, 5.69). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM, and will be broadcast on 1410 AM/93.9 FM KGSO, TuneIn and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
