GARY, Ind. -- Gary SouthShore RailCats (21-30) exploded for six runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Saltdogs (20-31) 9-3 in the series finale at U.S. Steel Yard Tuesday night.

The decisive inning began with a bunt single. After Gary tallied its second run of the inning on a safety squeeze to make the score 5-3, Pete Parise plunked the next batter which led to both benches clearing. RailCats then tacked on four more runs to take the 9-3 lead.

David Quinowski (2-1) pitched a perfect eighth inning with two strikeouts to earn the win. Parise (4-4) surrendered six runs - five earned - on four hits in two innings to take the loss.

Mike Provencher tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth with a majestic two-run home run to left, his fourth of the year.

Lincoln committed an error in that long bottom of the eighth and have now gone 12 consecutive games with an error.

The Saltdogs are off Wednesday and return home to Haymarket Park Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. to open a four-game series with the El Paso Diablos. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
